Design Statement

I chose Lora as my main body typeface because I think it's an elegant serif font that complements the heading typeface: Grenze Gotisch. I chose the heading typeface because it's ornate and feels historical but is still very legible, and Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn has an old-world, victorian flare to it. Text size is intentional and guides the user's eyes down the page and highlights important details with larger text. The buttons are styled simply with slightly rounded edges with bright red hover effects which I think looks very nice against the blue backgrounds.

The color palette I chose was to imitate the dark, almost mystical ambiance of Luthadel. I utilized shades of blues with varying transparancies in reference to the mists, which is tonally a very big part of Mistborn. I contrasted these blues with a crimson red in reference to themes of oppression, royalty and power, which are important themes seen in the series. I thought utilizing a red shadow behind the blue header on each page was fun and gave a slight steroscopic effect which pushes the feeling of the website as being more retro.
